NGOCSTIP – Tanjung Priok Police rescues 16 victims of human trafficking, uncovering a large-scale operation worth Rp 1 billion. Police arrested two suspects, SM and TR, for exploiting victims with false promises. The traffickers lured the victims with job offers but coerced them into the sex trade instead. The traffickers disguised their activities as massage therapy services and presented the victims as workers in food stalls, hiding the true nature of their exploitation.
The perpetrators used deception to lure victims into their trafficking network. They promised legitimate jobs but forced the victims into commercial sex work. The suspects arranged for victims to perform sexual services and took a large portion of their earnings.
The victims received Rp 100,000 to Rp 200,000 per transaction, while the perpetrators charged clients up to Rp 2 million. This payment disparity created financial dependence for the victims. The traffickers also imposed a debt bondage system, forcing victims to keep working to pay off their debts. This debt cycle made it hard for victims to escape.
